Nut Splitter

Okay, so I destroyed enough stuff to successfully get this nut off my Jeep's driver side, rear lower control arm bolt. The bracket was only very lightly hacked on by the Dremel. I wanted to thank Art for getting my thought process more parallel rather than perpendicular, so to speak.

This took two hours and eight reinforced cutting wheels and four grinding stone heads. Sheesh, Grade 10.9 is HARD! (And I burned out the switch on the old Dremel. Oh well, it lasted me for 15 years. Time for a new 4200...

I was *very* luck in that it seems to have been put on with an impact far more tightly than spec, then rusted in place with lots of river silt up in the threads, too. Unlike the other LCA bolts, this one ended up NOT being rusted into the bushing sleeve by the shoulder. Thankfully, when I got this free the LCA simply fell out onto the carport slab.

I have the last control arm installed, FINALLY! One more project finished...

Meanwhile, back in Volvoland -- I got the 740's sending unit back in the tank and the seal seems to be good. I used a lot of petroleum jelly on the gasket and installed it to the tank very carefully to make sure the bifurcated lips were okay. Then the sender went in with little trouble. I had to pull it out and reseat it once to get my arrows to line up. I will clip the one split fuel line end and reinstall all four lines after lunch. Then I will go to O'Reilly's for one of those 6" band clamps like were used on the 940s to make sure my locknut's threads to not leak any vapors.

Then I get to go burn through 250 miles worth of fuel to get to the 1/4 tank level and see if it keeps dying. I am expecting most of my four or five stalling situations to be cured with the new main pump, pre-pump, filter, strainer, relay and sending unit. I might still need an ignition amplifier module. But I sure hope not.

We shall see...

Thanks for all the help, guys!
