hi dylan and jw- always find this discussion very useful . currently have a 92 245 with 3 floor pedals which is in good shape, but when you have a car like this, you always have to keep an eye out for its replacement. have found this type of car gets killed by usually 2 things- rust or smashup. my req are the same as yours mostly- rwd due to its diy repairability and durability , manual trans for the same reasons, and a big fan following to source parts. current 245 was found in 2011 after an exhaustive 2 year search. most of the few 240s and 740s i see in yards and on the road are automatic. that is one repair whose price is regularly shystered and has caused many an old car to be junked. few diy wrenchers can repair autos. does the 850 and 940 have an available manual trans. never saw one. it remains a tough job to find a rwd clutch popper. would avoid a fwd car like the plague. fact is they are much more difficult to work on which means more $$$ and not as reliable as the rwds- just ask a cop. most fwds have more complicated electronic and computerized controls which are a bonanza for clip joints($200 to diagnose and replace a crank position sensor?- we dont need no stinkin cps's!). think if i saw an 850 , 740 or 940 rwd with a 3d pedal in good shape id get it. chances of finding a unicorn might be better. i know , i know , i have a bad attitude. regards oldduke
