Hmmm. 55-60 degrees comes to mind - but it has been quite a few years.
I don't recall it being better to remove the entire engine and gearbox just to access the clutch. The top of the tunnel has a cover that is bolted down and makes access a bit easier.
But if you need an excuse to clean things up in the engine bay, why not pull the engine and gearbox? It's not terribly difficult. I actually found it easy and preferable to remove the whole nose of the car when removing the engine/gearbox on my '60.
