Joseph, if that rigged test light did not come on with the engine off (stalled) keys in your pocket, there's a problem. It should find ground at the alt. Test again to be sure. Test your arrangement by touching the light to the alt housing before checking to the D+ tab. Make sure you are on the D+ tab and not the W connection if it has one.

If it still doesn't light, pull the regulator/brush assembly and check the brush length, slip ring wear, and clean the metal where it grounds to the frame, and where it makes contact to the D+ terminal.
