Hi Paula,
I'm very sorry to hear about Andrew. I really enjoyed his posts and interacting with him here on the Brickboard!
Regarding your car, the first step would be determining if it is a spark (lack of ignition) or a fuel problem. The engine needs both to fire. Sometimes a lot of diagnostics are needed so for now I'll just give you some basic information so you can get started.
A quick test of the ignition system is to pull a spark plug wire and check for spark. Be careful doing this! Don't get shocked. Here is some more info from the 700/900 FAQ which is in a pulldown menu at the top center of this page. Also see link below.
"Remove each spark plug, ground the threaded base against the engine block and, with the spark plug wire connected to *only that plug*, have a friend crank the engine. You should see a spark. If not, there is a problem with spark delivery. Repeat with each plug/wire. Note: In most cases, its not the spark but the fuel."
Two potential quick fixes in the fuel system are a bad fuel pump fuse or a bad fuel pump relay. If either is bad the car might not start.
Also, do you know if the fuel pump has ever been replaced? Since your car has pretty high mileage if it is the original fuel pump it is a good possibility that the pump may be bad.
The following might be a helpful link. It is a diagnostic tool used for starting problems with 700/900 series cars.
