First, I'm sorry to hear about Andrew's passing.
The first thing you want to do is to narrow down the possibilities. Either it's a fuel issue or an ignition issue, and determining which of the two it is will cut the diagnosis job in half.
When you first turn the ignition switch "ON" you should hear the fuel pump buzz for a second or two to pressurize the fuel system. Also, the 940 should have a schrader valve on the fuel injector rail, where you can test for fuel pressure. It looks just like a tire valve and probably has a metal cap screwed onto it. If you don't have a pressure gauge to attach to it, then you should be able to depress the center core and get a healthy spray of fuel out of it, provided you just pressurized the fuel system by turning the key on and off. If that looks good then pull a spark plug out and see if it's wet with fuel. While the plug is out, reconnect it to the lead and lay the metal part of the plug on a good clean metal part of the engine like a head bolt and have an assistant crank the starter while you watch for spark at the spark plug. In addition, when you are cranking the starter, watch the tachometer needle to see if it jumps a tiny bit with each revolution of the engine.
Then get back to the forum with what you've observed up to that point.
