That brass plug on the bottom of the gas tank is a 27/64” square socket.

Thanks Eric. I should have checked the OP's other threads to guess this was well outside my realm of experience. Fact is, well outside of Socal, in my neck of the woods, I'd be very reluctant to try to remove a brass plug like that from a steel fuel tank. Now I'm curious again. Is that tool a piece of cold-rolled 7/16" square stock tapered slightly at the business end? Or is it tool steel? Nice real B&S dial caliper!
