Bill,   I'm sorry i can't really answer your question.  This all occurred quite a few years ago and I just don't remember how much I tested.  The car did this on and off a few times that left me by the side of the road but always restarted and ran OK eventually after a cool down.  The symptoms indicated a fuel mixture problem and since the temp sensor has a direct influence I went for a replacement as almost as a first step.   good luck finding your problem - Dave
