Engine squeal/electrical problem 700 1991

I have a 1991 740T wagon, 148k. 1st start up in morning, engine (belts?)squeals like a pen of pigs! Quiets down after 15 min of freeway (70mph) driving, but then at idle has a groaning noise. Also, wife and kids going to school the other day and while driving on freeway at speed, all dash lights came on and car immediately went to idle but did not stall. She pulled off to side of road, let car idle, shut it off, restarted it, and has no problem since.Water pump is leaking slightly, but I'm trying to make it to the 150K timing belt change. I know water pump is part of squeal, but car has sounded like this ever since I purchased it 3 years ago. I have loosed the belts and retightened them but it just keeps coming back. I drives me nuts. HHHHEEELLLLPPP!!!!
