Re: HELP NEEDED: What's your mileage?

The '84 244GL I pulled from the junkyard with 202,000 miles was there because some insurance company totalled it due to the front end damage it suffered in a minor crash. It also had been valdalized (what idiot would break into the trunk to get at a cheap Volvo FM/AM radio?)

I replaced all the front between the fenders with salvaged parts, deomonstrated, through excessive paperwork, the repairs to PENNDOT, and received a branded title (went from "Salvaged" to Reconditioned")

Almost 3,000 miles now tht I am driving it. Very good runnner!

On my '86 245DL, when I had the PO transferr ownership and title, the AAA club issued the title paperwork "Milage Exempt" In other words, we didn't have to report actual milage (187,000) nor declare it unknown.

I believe this is being done to indicate the car has exceeded its design limits. (I believe other states actually title cars with this wordage)

Perhaps the caution for us is to insist upon getting the milage listed in the official records whenever selling or taking title, and not let even the auto club or notary contribute to that notion of "over the limit"
