I may have had similar problems with my '89. ne symptom was that it would start readily using starting fluid (pull hose at intake that goes to idle control motor, spray, reconnect). Although I ended up with a new ECU which didn't completely resolve the problem, I still think the cause is/was a intermittent problem with the radio suppression relay. If the above works its a general indication that your ignition is OK or at least fair. The radio suppression relay is part of the circuit to operate the injectors.
