This method (http://brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/Transmission-Auto1.shtml#7XX/940 Fluid Flush) will remove just about all of the old fluid. Since there are many "synthetic blend" ATFs out there on the market (Valvoline Dura-Blend comes to mind), I seriously doubt there would be a compatability problem.
