I replaced my system with an ipd system some time ago (85 244 GLT) and I started getting a thumping like that going over bumps. It turned out that the section of exhaust between the flange after the cat and the section that goes under the rear axle had rotated a bit - just enough for the pipe to be close enough to the transmission crossmember to hit it going over good bumps. Solution - I just loosened it up and turned it away. Worked great for me and was a lot cheaper then that bearing woulda been I'm sure. :-)
