Re: distributor nightmare 700 88

--Refer to my post "(Yet Another car) Stalling"--

I have a similar situation. I replaced a distributor (cap too) because it was filled with oil, and the impulse connector broke. The car was also stalling. I then went on to replace the spark plug wires and plugs, the air filter, the ignition coil, the primary high voltage wire, and the air filter.

The car still stalled. Less, but it still does. The car, like yours, starts and idles fine. But I noticed before it dies it flutters the temp guage. Unlike yours the idiot lights come on as the engine RPM drops rapidly. I also noticed that the idle is not constant, nor is base ignition timing. I engaged the AC, and found that when the ECU attempts to compensate for the AC by raising the RPM, it does so successfully, but then the idle becomes very unstable, it surges from 1000, to 1500, back to 1000 in a repeated pattern.

You may want to investigate the temp guage, AC, idle, and timing... it looks like an ECU problem, but I am worried perhaps that there is a problem with a ground or voltage regulator that cooked the ECU. I'd like to find that out before replacing it.
