Re: Repacking the bearings? 700 1989

I just found about the sealed bearing nonsense last week. Pulled off the hub on my sister's 740 (thinking I would spend about $16 per side to replace wheel bearings) - wrong. The entire hub has to be replaced. I found them for $85 each from Groton - local supplier wanted $150 per hub.

I am saving the old ones - if there is a method to replace just the bearing in the existing hub, I would like to try that on my niece's 740 wagon. Anyone done that??

Plus, the crush nut on this was not easy to get off - had to use air gun. The FAQs list a 100nm torque value plus 3/4 of another turn. Is this accurate?

I plan to put them on this Saturday - not too difficult, but costly.
