So, I read this thread and everyone covered the fuel systems admirably, but no one stated the obvious.
Maybe its not the fuel!!!!!
When was the last time you changed your cap and rotor? Did the the points (if yyou have points) checked the condition of your plugs? People are often very quick to blame fuel systems when 9 time out of ten its spark. As a final note, there's the valve clearance and any other problem that could be causing low compresion. I've run B18/20s in canada for years and cold start problems were usually spark, when I get really pissed off I sqirt ether into the intake and guess what? when there's no healthy spark it still won't start.
Re: the tranny. When it's cold it's stiff. This car was designed in sweden, and they designed it that way, I think of it is as a forced warning system, you just can't drive the car hard until it's warmed up, not a bad thing if you think about it. Good Luck, and remember, sometimes we think too much, make sure all the simple systems are working before you go messing with the injection stuff.
p.s. When was the last time you changed your fuel filter?
