I have a '71 142E, and I have the original sales brochure and owner's manual.
They didn't come stock with the rally instruments, just a dash-mounted tach like the 123GT. 130 H.P, 4-speed/overdrive, 4.30:1 rear gear, limited-slip NOT standard. 10.5:1 compression ratio inspired many later on to try and lower that to run on available gasoline.
They had the leather interior from the 164. Came in red, silver-blue and gold. Don't see many red ones. 5" x 15 wheels, the no-hubcap ones. Front disc pad area was 26.7 sq. in. vs 23 sq. in. standard 140. No matter the color, they came with God-awful brown carpet, a good way to tell an original, sice no one on the Planet would put in that carpet with the black leather.
The only 140 that rates 3 stars in the Volvo buyer's guide, and the one that is the best start for an SCCA ITB car.
The 1972's dropped the compression ratio to 8.7:1 - slowed them down a lot.
Go for it, check for rust!
