rubber plug 200 1989

I have an 1989 240 DL wagon with only 60,000 miles on it. The vehicle has been leaking oil from this rubber plug that is located right behind the tranny. This plug --to shed more light--is located on the lowest point of some horizontal aparatus piece of metal framing that runs across the middle of the vehicle. I have no idea what function this plug has nor the aparatus it is connected to. Can someone please grant me some info. thanks
