I'll concede that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that each person's car is most often a reflection of what he or she feels to be "within the bounds of good taste" and what their preference is. But if you do it to your car and you present it to the public, you're open to criticism.
Go ahead and criticize me about my car, every single thing I've done to it serves a purpose. That purpose being the true automotive passion of most enthusiasts, the purpose and pursuit of performance. Clear taillights do not add performance. Just like stickers, exhaust tips, 747 style wings and hood scoops that funnel air onto the top of your hood. Go ahead and waste money on lights you aren't allowed to use.
When people, at least the people who's automotive opinion that I respect, see clear tails on any car they think "high school kid that likes to drive slow car fast, that wasted money on the image of speed rather than the actuality of speed." When I see clear tails, I get excited and think "high school kid who will probably race me."
With regards to calling other people "morons" that have never been to Europe: I never said that people who have never been to Europe are morons, becaue I would be calling myself a moron. I made the statement that people who think clear tails make their car look more european are morons, because clear tails don't come on european cars.
I posted it here as almost joke, realizing that most of the people here would find the fact that someone even makes clear tails for the Volvo, funny.
Telling me to expand my horizions is a bit weird because you obviously don't know me and are taking this one opinion that I've expressed and turning it into your whole image of who I am. I'm open to new experiences, and expanding my horizons, why do you think I ditched my Integra and bought a Volvo station wagon? Just because I (and the rest of us "automotive elitests" or "snobs") think fuzzy dice and clear tails are tacky doesn't mean we're close minded individuals who don't like to have fun. You can continue to like clear tails, and I will continue to make fun of people with clear tails, blue headlights, big wings, exhaust tips, and tachometers the size of a medium pizza blocking forward vision.
Anyways, this isn't the place for arguements about taste, my original intent was to inquire why someone would buy something for their car that they're not allowed to use on the road.
