My Volvo has a drinking problem 700

Whenever I drive 75 in Atlanta, I about get run over.

I would start by testing the oxygen sensor, or if it hasn't been replaced in 60,000 miles, get a new one. That could be good for a 1 or 2 MPG improvement.

How's your alignment and tire pressures?

Also, your driving habits have a lot to do with it -- especially if this is your first turbo volvo and you're still getting acquainted :-) I think 28 MPG is probably mythical (especially in an automatic). 24 might be reasonable if you're gentle on the gas pedal. With a heavy foot, 20 MPG around town wouldn't be anything to worry about.
