Yeah, it can be done... I am just ironing out the final kinks from mine. I swapped the turbo motor from a 1994 940 Turbo into my 1987 760 Turbo 'cause the 87 threw a rod. I would recommend not going the way that I went, which was to get overly ambitious and swap the computers and whatnot... get a motor that corresponds to yours (i.e. turbo or NA) and just swap the block in. Take off all of the peripherals, as well as the intake manifold, and then just bolt the block in. Try to get one from a newer car, and if there are a few extra sensors, ignore them. Seriously. Only plug in the ones that your car is wired for. The computer will never know the difference and your car will drive basically the same as it would, were the engine to be stock.
Good luck, let us know how it turns out.
