fuel problem 200 1984

There is no fuse near the pump. There are two fuses in the fuse panel that operate the pumps. The main fuel pump fuse powers up the fuel pump relay and on to the main pump. A secondary circuit from the fuel pump relay travels back to the fuse panel, thru the fuse for the in-tank pump and on to the in-tank pump.
Unplug the fuel pump relay and install a jumper wire between the red wire and the yellow/orange wire. The pump should run. If it doesn't, check for voltage on the red wire. If no voltage check fuses and wiring from fuse panel to relay.
If voltage is present on the red wire, check the yellow wire that connects to the pump itself. If no voltage, check wiring from relay to pump. If voltage is present at pump connection, check the ground (black wire) connection at pump.
If you have both voltage and ground at pump and it doesn't run, you have a defective pump.

You can check both pumps this way. For the intank pump you will have to pull up the mat in the trunk and remove the cover plate in the upper left.
