Yet another reason to avoid Jiffy Lube...

From this morning's Denver Post -

"Wednesday, March 27, 2002 - Employees of a chain of 22 Jiffy Lube franchises in Colorado say company officials instructed them to tell customers they put Pennzoil in their cars when they were actually using a less-expensive brand.

"It's false advertising," said Dirk Sparks, manager of the Jiffy Lube at 16951 E. Iliff Ave., Aurora. "They need to quit ripping people off."

"Jerry Whitcomb, vice president of Colorado Lubrication Inc., who oversees the 22 stores from Pueblo to Greeley, including eight in the Denver area, acknowledged that the company has not been using the oil touted by Jiffy Lube, which is owned by Pennzoil."

The entire artcle can be found at:

(If the link doesn't work, go to www.denverpost.com and search the Business section for "Jiffy Lube")

Seems that Pennzoil wouldn't extend any more credit to the franchisees, so they just started using cheaper oil & told customers they were getting Pennzoil... Also, to cut costs, they were using a mix of plain water & dishwasher soap to fill windshield washer fluid reservoirs...

Amazingly, despite using oil that was about 45% cheaper that Pennzoil, they actually RAISED prices charged the customer!

Volvo Content - I do my own oil changes, using Mobil 1 & OEM filters; planning a major project on my '86 740 this weekend! The 100k mile maintenance job - new radiator, heater hoses, heater valve, motor mounts, timing belt, & oil change...
