The trurth is that the majority of people on this board are neophyte orintermediate DYI folks and don't have the experience to give you a reply. That is why you see people reply more frequently to what you see as insignificant or trivia type posts; it's more common and accessible information.
Additionally, the 700/900 FAQ is the place to start for problems such as your OD issue. If you take a look you will likely find some common possibilities. they include:
1) Faulty overdrive relay. Buy a new one online for about $30 or resolder your existing one.
2) Corroded/gummed up solenoid. On the OD is a solenoid valve that can become gummed up. This might cause the OD not to engage.
3) Bad OD button. Possible the OD trigger/button is bad and just doesn't work. Remove and replace if bad.
4) If the OD works but seems to engage/disengage (with the light staying on the whole time) the problem may be warped/bad pistons in the OD unit. This is a known issue, and can be magnified if you never had the OD overhaul recommended by Volvo (the original pistons in the early OD units had grooves that were too narrow and gaskets that were too small, allowing fluid to seep past into teh cylinder and compromising OD performance).
hope this helps. btw man, I've now posted 5 times trying to find out about Dan-Block brake pads for my car and have yet to get a response in teh course of 2 weeks. it happens to all of us, just learn to deal with it, be patient, and don't go off half-cocked or you may piss somefolks off.
good luck,
rt
