Hi, I have a 1987 740GLE, I like the car a lot, but the man. transmission has been groaning lately. After doing research, have figured out that the noise is a bad bearing, since it's only the first 3 gears + reverse making the noises. Anyway, I was hoping to get some ideas on what to do here. First of all, if i find one, could i just swap the bad M46 w/ a low mileage M47. I know they're not as strong, but even w/ the few mods I've done I don't think that my b230f could do too much damage(?). Ok, plan # 2, is a rebuild practical? The tranny was supposed to have been rebuilt by AAMCO already once in it's lifetime, obviously if this is the way i went, it would go to an indy, but what kind of price should i expect? Final option, replace w/ another M46. My car has a cable clutch, so if i find a used tranny w/ hydraulic, is there anything specific/complicated involved w/ that kind of changeover on the tranny, or is it just a direct bolt in job. Thanks ahead of time
Mike
