86 760~ should we avoid it? 700 1986

I had a 87 760 wagon. The AMM went out and the a/c + heater failed.
The 760 has a auto-a/c which fails. The 740 has a better a/c system.
I sold my 87 760 for $1300, in very good shape w/o a/c working, 157,000
miles( 40,000 on turbo) I used Mobil one. I had the records from day one
and it cost the first owner lots of $$$ to get the 760 to 140,000. Brake
hubs should have had been replaced. The electric seat costs alot to fix.
I would look for a 740 turbo wagon. Same engine and body as the 760 but
w/o fancy a/c and that rear axle-shock is just a headache waiting to happen.
And how about those 940?
Maintainance i s the key to long Volvo use. A 86 will need new rotors,
new fuel pumps(main $200, intank $72+ filter$10) and the fuel filter($24)
new water pump, has the radiator been replaced? The rad hoses are not cheap for the turbo($35) has the relays been replaced? $45 each for the 3 essentials,
of course this is just for parts, discount prices. oh yeh the auto trans
kickdown cable should be on the list $45 + dropping the pan.
of course if these have been replaced in the last 25,000 miles,if could be a
good deal, if not a lower price may be negotiated but do you want car
which will need expensive parts and expensive labor even before you own it?
There is always a better deal.
