Thanks Don, I did essentially ground the 4th gear switch only I did it next to the relay instead of underneath the car by removing the red wire from the relay connector and replacing it, temporarily, with a short piece of wire to ground. So the solenoid only comes on when I hit the button. I will need to be very careful with reverse though.
