Possible problems using OD in 3rd gear? 200 1984

I have tried to pull out the switch/sensor with a deep socket but there just wasn't enough room. I did read that by loosening the 2 driver's side bolts on the crossmember and removing the 2 on the pass. side the trans would lower and tilt enought to get up in there with the socket. I just haven't had the time to do that yet but will attempt it soon.
