OK, I have never really had ANY driveability problems to speak of with my car, but... heres the scoop. I went out at lunch to do some errands, I let the car warm up before i left. I thought the fuel pump sounded wierd, (recently replaced main pump), so, at my first stop I removed the fuse for the intank pump, the noise really didnt change, hmm... maybe its just the brute force of the brand new pump being able to work on its own, (i thought the pump was supposed to get loud and nasty with the pre-pump disabled.) I replaced the fuse and went to fill up. I was at 1/2 tank, I filled up and no change in noise. hmmm, oh well, I accelerated heartily away from the gas station to check for fuel starvation under load, everthing seemed OK. It wasnt pedal to the metal or anything, just a good accel. Then at the next stoplight the idle was way more erratic than usual, and although I can get up to 45mph, it seems like the car is starved for fuel always jerking and bucking at any speed.
Listening carfully under the hood I can hear a small puff or suck and then the idle jumps. Giving the car some gas via the throttle cable the engine bucks around and I hear a 'knocking sound'. thats the best I can describe it
I plan to pull the bung nut and at the very least replace the fuel delivery hose and fuel sock. Any other thoughts. Major vacuum leak????
