how to wire a 12v constant lead for stereo??

I'll take a look for that darn green wire -

here's the situation now:

I disconnected the small clock, used a male-end connector and wire to draw the constant 12v (from fuse 8); I also added a 3amp fuse between the power and the stereo for extra protection. I've connected the blue "switched power" wire to it's mate for the stereo.

everything seemed to be fine, the radio got power at ignition position '1', it even retained it's memory when I took the key out for a significant amount of time. Now the trouble is: when I turn the volume up on the radio, I get this aweful static sound??

any ideas? should I use larger guage wire for my 12v constant? should I just remove my added fuse? should I directly tap fuse #8??

all of the above?

thanks so much - you guys rock!!
