how to wire a 12v constant lead for stereo??

Well it sounds like you have already hooked up constant power, but if not (or in the future if you do it again) I've had good luck with getting it from the hazard switch. It's easy to get too, only requires a short wire and seems to work well.
I really don't know a lot about car stereo's but maybe if it doesn't get enough power it can't give enough to the speakers causing the distortion at high volume (when it needs the power the most). Just a thought. Good luck with it.
