winter tires: size? brand?

It took me about 2 seconds to realize why once I read your post recommending narrower tires; the car would have to work twice as hard to push double the amount of snow out of teh way to get the tire through. I guess I was concentarting too much on actual traction (ice, water, dry, whatever) and not thinking about teh resistance wider tires would meet.
