240 won't start - no diagnosis codes appear

I had a similar sympton on a 1980 BMW 320i that turned out to be the distributor. This would normally fail after driving for a while, stopping for 30-40 minutes then no start - sometimes! It was maddening because the wife would call and by the time I got to the car it would start and run fine.

I finally was able to get it to fail at home and there was no spark and the scope showed no pulses/waveform out of the pickup in the distributor. The pickup coil in the distributor was intermittent.

Good luck,
