Wait--don't strip it

All the 240s there are ever gonna be are already here on this Earth--Volvo's never gonna make any more. Too many are gone already. So I say, don't ever strip a complete, solid car. And it's a wagon, it's got GL trim, and it may be a turbo. If the only problems are seats, engine, and title, it's worth more intact than it is in pieces.

1. Seats can be replaced or reupholstered. Lots of people on the board have done this.

2. If it's a diesel, think of it as a candidate for an engine conversion. There are people on this board, and on IPD classifieds under "wanted", looking for diesels for V8 conversion. If it's a gas engine, the engine can be fixed or replaced with a good enough used engine.

3. Every state has different rules on salvage titles. A quick call to your state motor vehicle agency would tell you what they are in NC. And even if the title can't be upgraded, so what, if the car can be adopted into the Volvo cult. Someone will buy it from you (or trade you lots of good parts and shadetree repairs), give it a good home and drive it until the body rots off.

Report back, whatever you decide to do.

Doug Harvey
