Washer jet problems 200 1986

Hello,

Just serviced my pumps/lines on my '87 245 this past weekend. Pumps didn't work because the insulation was gone (crumbled off) - shorting the circuit. Taped them up and got the pumps working - but no fluid coming out. Here's what I did:

- Disassembled the two pumps. It's easy: four 7/32 screws hold the bottoms on. They'll separate into the motor and the gear pump. Ran the gear pump under warm water to remove all the grit and junk. Reassembled the pumps.

- removed the washer jets (be careful! mine are brittle) and, using a stick pin and my breath to blow out the gunk, cleaned them. They were full of jellied blue washer fluid.

- before re-installing the washer jets i ran the washers pumps without them to flush the lines (I used warm tap water).

I now have working washer pumps that clean my windows beautifully! And it didn't cost me a dime; just some time.

Good luck!
Ron
