The heater valve should definitely not leak: get another one. You should have some warranty on the present one.

Is your alternator warning bulb in the panel burned out? If this does not work, your alternator will not begin charging and the battery will run down.

You should also have an alternator output test (voltage, current) to isolate the problem.
