There may be some mis-identification running around here. I meant the ignition control module, or ICM, when I said no link to cranking. That one, over by the washer fulid tank, just controls ignition advance, etc., and I though that's the one the mechanic said to replace.
The ECU, Electronic Control Unit, under the RH dash, does indeed ground to get the fuel pumps running. No spark = no fuel = no start, but cranking would be OK.
Again, imprecise language thwarts assistance. Is it cranking? Turning over? Catching but not running? Not catching? Cranking and making gasline smell? Ah, the vagaries of the English language.
