Hi Pete - I've heard from several sources that a tank swap is advised/required. I hadn't heard this when I did the first one in '93/'94 and I never had any such issue despite running the tank quite low on many occasions (indeed, it ran strong right up until it ran out a couple times). We did another a few years ago ('98 or '99?) and elected to use the original tank and ignore this piece of advice, not for any good reason, but because 'it worked last time I did it this way' and we didn't have any other tanks handy.
On each of those cars, the return fuel line ended at a T fitting that was between the tank's 'out' port and the pump's 'in' port. The idea was that returning fuel would be sucked into the pump and then recirculated back to the injectors. I don't know how others who did have problems might have routed their fuel lines, so I wonder if we were just lucky, or if we happened upon a method that worked better than whatever other method may have been employed.
Not sure which way Phil will go with his upcoming Djet 122 hooplah.
Best,
Cameron
