'91 740 problems after 100K service

Dear Brickboard,

After taking my '91 740 for its 100k service, including timing and drive belts, and trans fluid change, the engine seems to sound quite different at idle, sort of like a sewing machine. Surely this can't be a coincidence?

Also, replacing all the belts did not solve the slight squealing when the car is cold and the steering wheel is turned either direction off center... ideas?

Finally, and of more concern, I continue to have hard starting and rough running for about 30 secs on cold (below 30F starts) on cold starts... you can see my previous post about this by following this link: http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=579628

The mechanic is at a loss and is suggesting things like the E-PROM ($$$).Additionally, now after the service when revved at idle the car will drop down to almost a complete stall before returning to a normal idle.

If anyone has ideas about any or all of these ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it! I've owned this car since new, and crazy as it sounds, it almost seems like part of the family.

However, I'm starting to have misgivings about it now...recently wouldnt start for the first time in 12 years, but I want to hang on to it. So, again any help is appreciated...sorry for the long post! :)
-Kevin
