stalling 700 1988

I had the exact same problem in my 88 only it started in hot weather. Check the air hose from the AMM to the throttle body if it is old and spongy, it can collapse under vacuum. Mine got to the point where it would quit at 3000 rpm like someone turned off a switch. It would recover quickly as soon as I let off the gas. I fixed it by inserting an aftermarket 2-7/8 diameter hose inside the Volvo one - the Volvo replacement was $40 and the fix was $8.

Just a thought.
