THere s always a little slack in a dif., if there wasn't you would get rapid wear. When you turn the axle shaft and observe the wheel not responding right away the gearing makes the slack appear greater than it is. If you take off the rer cover you can check the specs re: the lash etc, or as others have mentioned, it's a DANA dif.,, go to a good 4X4 shop, most of the older rigs use DANA and they tear through them, a simple rebuild would be a piece of cake for them.
