I'm fairly certain that the VW bellhousing bolt pattern has been the same since the introduction of the watercooled engine in '74 or so.

It should. Besides, once you have the D24-M46 bellhousing, any M46 would go in. Since some Volvo Turbo engines went as high as 180hp (and hotrodders claim the M46 is good to 250hp or so), you ought to be fine.
