John;
If you can replace a 240 blower motor, congratulations...you've passed the "commitment test" to join the oldies club!
Seriously though, if the body on this 122S is indeed clean and the price is fair, that's a heckova start if you want to get into a vintage Volvo...and if you've ever thought a 122 was at all neat looking (or maybe even attractive), you'll probably find yourself liking it more and more, as you dig into the simple, well designed, easy (dare I say: fun) to work on, made of quality materials little car, as it grows on you....not to say that it will need a lot of work (but at its age you can figure on going through it with preventative maintenance as you recommision it for your own service)....I think you'll find plenty of forum regulars here who use theirs as reliable, fun, daily drivers. Having solid sheetmetal means you'll have a good base to bolt restored and or replacement equipment onto...both of which are reasonably available.
As I always advise prospective buyers: Buy the best sheetmetal you can afford, the mechanicals, and electricals and their (few) weak points have pretty much been figured out at this point...repair techniques and info are well known (and published*) and so you could hardly go wrong!
*For instance.... my site (out of New England): http://www.sw-em.com
...but also Phil S's (out of the West Coast): http://www.vclassics.com/
...or Jim H's (down under, New Zealand): http://www.ccar.co.nz/volvo/index.html
...my apologies to all of the fine sites I didn't list, but I wanted to reinforce the point of the WWW, and the world wide interest and support!
Good Luck with your decision!
