Why does the shift assembly suck so hard? 700 1986

My 745t is sitting dead in the driveway while I ponder this very question. I haven't pulled the tranny yet but as you found out, replacing the slave cylinder didn't make any difference. Same thing happened. John Sargent posted yesterday about a cracked release fork he found in response to my questions on this problem.

You say the clutch is like new. Do you now what the service limit is short of wearing to the rivets? I'm wondering if a combination of worn (read "thin") clutch plate, pressure plate flywheel and fatigued spring on the pressure plate would all contribute to this.

I'll be back under my car tomorrow or Thursday night.
