Why does the shift assembly suck so hard? 700 1986

I'll be trying to check the condition of my release fork tomorrow by looking into the bellhousing. If I determine it isn't cracked at the pivot I may try what another BB member did. Put a washer or nut between the slave cylinder piston and pushrod. A real shadetree "fix" to be sure. He said he's been driving on it for 3 years so maybe it's something to consider.

At some point I do what needs to be done to get things working. I spent several years living in central America where new parts are not always an option and learned by watching the old guys come up with fixes that lasted years.

Tell me though, I've never dropped the trans from a 740 and it appears to be pretty straight forward. What am I looking at in terms of time? An afternoon? A couple of hours?

I'll post back here after inspecting mine tomorrow.
