You can replace the fiber gear with another fiber gear without replacing the
crank gear. The crank gear rarely is damaged by a fiber gear failure.
But the steel gears are a different pitch and you can't use the crank gear
from a set that had a fiber gear with a steel cam gear.

Let's see.... Can I make this more confusing???
