Hi all,
I've got one of those see-through Purolator gas filters on my '65 122. I've noticed that sometimes the filter is full of gas and the car starts right up, and sometimes it's empty, usually but not always after sitting for prolonged periods of time, and it cranks over several times before starting. Is there a one-way valve at the carbs or fuel pump somewhere that may not be working and allowing the fuel to evaporate or flow back into the tank. I like it when it starts right up.
I know I have a leaky gasket on the fuel indicator sending unit as I can smell gas in the trunk when I fill it. Is the fuel system supposed to be pressurized? The cap is supposed to relieve pressure, I thought, or should it keep enough to ensure that fuel stays in the line. I've also noticed that if I park on a hill and the tank is full, fuel spills out the back.
What needs to be fixed here, if anything. I dismantled the filler cap (I have a Wasso locking cap.) everything seemed to be in order.
Thanks in advance for your help.
