Regarding leaking tank..

It is a typical problem, that the filler-pipe has been "shaking" loose over the years. Look at the welding of the pipe/tank. Also inspect the "roll-welding" around the tank (from inside the luckageroom) Another common failure is the "roll-welding" of the tank. (Where the two pieces of the tank itself, are welded together)
