Art,
Yes, he could try all sorts of ways off getting the readings. I was just trying to point out that dead ending the outlet with a pressure gauge is not the way to check a pump.
Indeed on high pressure hydraulic pumps with out an integral pressure relief it`s bloody dangerous
Personally, if the pump ran with 12V applied I`d fit it and see if it worked OK on the car.
