Hello:
The specified interval is 30K miles. This is the dramatically improved B280F motor-- at 260K km it is just a pup! Are you sure it isn't an exhaust manifold gasket?
The valve adjustment looks a great deal like the old VW aircooled engines-- the only real hassle is moving the AC compressor. One other gotcha is that the bolts holding the valve covers on often suffer from corrosion due to dissimilar metals-- work slowly, use penetrating oils.
I miss the power and sophistication of my 760GLE, which hit a tree after leaving the road at 80km/h last winter...
